@joliet is an Instagram page focused on everything happening in and around Joliet, Illinois. The page highlights local news, restaurants, businesses, events, community updates, and other stories relevant to people who live in the area.

We are looking for a creative and reliable Social Media Content Creator to help establish the page’s visual identity and create engaging local content.

In this role, you will design reusable Instagram post templates and create timely posts about Joliet and the surrounding area. You will research local stories, determine which topics are relevant to the community, and turn that information into clear, visually appealing social media content.

The ideal candidate is proficient in Canva, has a strong eye for design, and understands how local news and community-focused Instagram pages create content.

* Design a consistent set of branded Canva templates for @joliet

* Create Instagram posts and carousels using the approved templates

* Research local news, restaurants, businesses, events, openings, closings, and community updates

* Identify timely and relevant stories that would interest Joliet residents

* Write clear, concise, and engaging captions

* Verify important details before publishing content

* Properly credit news outlets, photographers, and other original sources

* Maintain a consistent visual style across the Instagram page

* Organize templates and completed content in Canva

* Meet weekly content expectations and deadlines

* Communicate regularly with the @joliet team

* Local news and community updates

* New restaurant and business openings

* Restaurant recommendations and features

* Upcoming events and weekend guides

* Construction and development updates

* Local sports and school news

* Weather-related announcements

* Road closures and transportation updates

* Community achievements and positive local stories

* Joliet history and interesting local facts

* Proficiency in Canva

* Strong graphic design and visual storytelling skills

* Experience creating Instagram posts and carousels

* Strong writing, grammar, and proofreading skills

* The ability to research and summarize information accurately

* Good judgment when selecting local stories and sources

* Strong attention to detail

* The ability to work independently and meet deadlines

* Previous experience creating content and post templates is a plus

* Enjoy keeping up with local news, restaurants, businesses, and events

* Know how to make an informational post visually interesting

* Can turn a news article into a clear and engaging Instagram post

* Have a strong eye for fonts, colors, spacing, and layout

* Understand what encourages people to share, save, or comment on local content

* Are organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently
